Setting up Remote Desktop on Windows 7 operating system

Setting up remote desktop on Windows 7 is really easy

Here are the instructions to do so:

Right click on computer and click properties

Click on Remote Settings link on left hand navigation bar

For connecting between Windows 7 machines, select option 3 else for connections between Windows 7 & XP or Vista select option 2 radio button

Windows 7 automatically sets up firewall rules, so no further tweaking is required

To start the connection within your own home network find out the ip address of the computer you wish to connect

finding IP address,

Open Command Prompt by typing cmd in Windows Search bar and hit enter

Command prompt type ipconfig /all (Notice the space between ipconfig and /) and hit enter

Look for Wireless adapter or ethernet adapter ip address (marked here 192.168.0.100 is my example)

Now that we have our IP address, move to computer we will connect from, start up remote desktop application and type in ip address and hit connect

Now you will be prompted to enter Windows user id and password for the computer we are connecting to

You are connected now..

Ip address changes from time to time if you are on a dynamic router assigned ip and can be made static as well, as an alternate use computer name instead of IP address

To find computer name follow this method

Click on Advanced system settings this time

Click on Computer Name tab and note down computer name
